Sukhothai Historical Park - Old Sukhothai

Sukhothai Historical Park - Old Sukhothai

In my opinion Old Sukhothai is nicer and more compact than Ayuthaya.  Sukhothai is closed off, and only Bicycles, motorbikes and the park buses are allowed in.  You can hire a bicycle for 20 baht per day, which I think is quite good value.

My bike had a puncture in the first 30 min's and I had to take it back for another.  They replaced it, with no questions asked and no extra money.  Don’t use the mountain bikes as they are not very comfortable.

All of the temples can be visited in one day, but I took my time and did it over two days.  I went in the early morning, then back to my hotel and came back in the late afternoon. Midday is too hot and the light too harsh.

I visited Wat Mahatrat, Wat Si Sawai, Sat Sa Si, Wat Phra Rhai Luang, Wat Si Chum and Wat Sorasak.

The lakes are quite low in February.  October or November would be the best time to visit.
