Inle Lake - Nyaung Shwe

The number one reason for coming to Inle Lake is to take a trip on the lake.  A day trip around the lake will cost you approximately 13000 kyats.

I left at around 7.45am from the Nyaung Shwe harbour.  The Lake is a bit of a tourist trap. You are taken from one tourist area to another. The traditional markets have been replaced by souvenir tat stalls. 

The trip basically consists of a visit to a market, floating villages, silk/cotton factory, lunch, another couple of factories if you want, floating villages, Jumping Cat Monastery and back home.  Don’t get me wrong, Inle is beautiful, I’m just not interested in being punted around factories so that the driver can get some commission.  However, you can tell your driver to bypass the factories, it will just mean that you will be back to the harbour a little earlier.
