Pak Ou Caves - Luang Prabang

The Pak Ou Caves are 2 1/2 hours up river by boat, however, you can take a taxi from Luang Prabang to Ban Pak Ou Village and cross the river from there.

You will need to negotiate hard to get a good price on this trip.  My driver started off at 1000 Baht ($27USD).  I managed to get him down to $22 USD, I tried $21 USD then walked away but that didn’t work.  The Lonely Planet guide states a price of  $15. Gasoline/petrol is more expensive now, as well as having to be imported from Thailand.

Your boat driver may ask for a cash advance to buy fuel. My driver wanted all the money up front, but I only gave him $10 USD.

It is also possible to stop and visit the Whisky Village and Silk Village.  A fee of 10000 Kip is payable to enter the caves.

This trip takes a full day. I left at 10.30am returning at 3.30pm.
