The first day you arrive in Siem Reap and you will probably be heading straight for Angkor Wat, whatever you do don’t use a car or minivan to go around the Angkor Complex, it will totally spoil your experience of the trip.

There are plenty of Tuk Tuk drivers in Siem Reap, Khmer ‘Tuk Tuks’ are a 2 wheel Carriage towed behind a Motorbike. I much prefer these to the ‘Thai Tuk Tuks’ which drive too fast and you can’t see out of them very well. A Tuk Tuk will cost you from between $10 and $15 US Dollars per day around Angkor.

Get used to working in dollars as almost everything will be quoted in US Dollars. Tip your driver a couple of Dollars and he will look after you well during your trip.

My driver my Mr Boon Tau was very nice, his English was OK in relation to 'touristy' questions but if you asked him something different, eg. non tourist related he didn’t quite understand. English is widely spoken in the Tourist areas and Khmer English skills are far better than the Thais. I think this is because they are forced to have to learn English in order to make money, whereas the Thais are not. You will easily find tourist guides that can speak up to 6 languages.
